The Wollondilly Heritage Centre
The Wollondilly Heritage Centre is a Social History Museum and Local and Family History Research Centre. It collects, conserves and interprets local history in Exhibitions, Publications, Special Events and Education Programs.
Exhibitions Include:
Local Indigenous Stories
The Tharawal and Gundungorra people lived in Wollondilly for thousands of years. They share their stories.
Burragorang Cottage
Furnished with domestic items from the era before electricity, the cottage will bring back many memories and create new ones, especially for the children on our Education Programme when they churn butter and iron with flat irons.
The Lost World of Burragorang
Once upon a time there was a valley created in the Dreamtime by the serpent Gurangatch in his desperate attempt to escape Mirrgan, the tiger cat. The Gundungorra lived here for 50,000 years. This valley later became home to people from Europe who planted crops, raised their families and mind for coal and silver until their valley was flooded forever under the waters of the Warragamba Dam to provide water for the city of Sydney.
The Children of Federation
From our original bush and schoolroom and unique priest's bed, to Empire Celebrations and a Debutante Ball, we look at growing up in the Wollondilly since Federation in 1901.
