Danger in Gardens

Posted by Corinne Connellan at Monday 16 November 2009

Yesterday my sister and I decided to take our boys, 1 and 2, to the Gardens to play. At some point my son had a tantrum and ran off, climbing through the fence that blocks the play area from the creek (just for a small description, its about a 15-20 metre fall almost vertically, down to the creek), quite easily.

I told him he was not to climb over the horizontal wooden poles, and I'm sure he took this in.

Unfortunately, he was to have another tantrum, however this time, he ran straight through the fence which has the pole missing.

My heart is pounding just thinking of it. My 2 year old son nearly fell 20 metres into a creek. We are just lucky, that by chance, the decided to run along the fence and not just continue in the direction he was heading.

The pond at the gardens is also not blocked off. Parents know that kids can run off in the wink of an eye, so either don't come here or if you do, please keep your children in your sight at all times.

Disappointing!

what part of a gravel path, a small bbq area with a run down pond, kids play ground and a grass area makes this qualify as BOTANIC gardens????? Very disappointing!!
