Mix wrong for concrete slab
Posted by Simon at Sunday 09 March 2008
Last week (6th March 2008) Hansen supplied about 12 truck loads of concrete for a tennis court slab (it's a large-ish slab - 34 mtrs x 17 mtrs). They managed to get the mix wrong and the slab wouldn't go off. When the slab did finally set there were (and still are) hundreds of quite large cracks running all the way through. At this stage I don't know if the slab will need to be ripped up. However I would never recommend using Hansen as your concrete supplier if they can't get a simple thing like the mix right. Currently the builder is grinding the surface away (which was very rough as the water didn't 'float') to see if a satisfactory finish can be made. But with the cracks it's not looking good.
I would have thought a large company like Hansen would have processes in place to stop this sort of thing happening...obviously not, use them at your own peril...
I will update this site if anything develops.
