Picton NSW ANZAC Day

Posted by Col Fawns at Wednesday 27 April 2011

This year I attended the Picton Anzac Day commemoration service due to the fact that my brother (an ex-Vietnam veteran)was coming down from Maryborough Qld. at the invitation of his 2 girls who live at Tahmoor & are on the Picton Anzac Day Committee, normally I would attend the Anzac Day services closer to home (Penrith), but because it was a very special occassion, I got up early & drove to Picton arriving in plenty of time for the 6:30 am start, what a great day it turned out to be,the rain held off for the march & my brother was asked to be the flag bearer, I can't tell you how proud this made me feel to see him up the front waddling along on his 2 crook pins, chest out, doing his duty & waving to the hundreds of people who lined the parade route. The service at the cenataph was one of the most moving I have attended, I had the misty eyes & a lump in the throat throughout, at the end of the service everyone was invited back to the Picton Bowling Club for breakfast where we all enjoyed a good laugh & reminisced for the rest of the day.

I would like to thank the Picton ANZAC Day Committee for all their hard work & dedication in organising a most excellent day.

Absolutely well done!!
